My strawberries had produced a red strawberry, finally. The first strawberry that I have planted, cared for, and grown – to what was near full maturity.
My excitement increased as I thought about using this single strawberry, to garnish a cake that I was baking for a very special family occasion.
It looked like it needed another day to ripen fully, so I left it alone.
The next day I started work early, and had a day jam packed full of clients. It seemed like I had all of the people looking for Pilates in Dubbo calling me all at once. The studio was busy with clients, and I was receiving so many new inquiries about Pilates classes – generally people who hadn’t visited our website, or were very new to Pilates. So no thought was put to my little red delight growing at home….
So here I was in the studio, multitasking.
Well.
After a great day at work, I returned home to this.
Can you spot the difference?
Someone had eaten my strawberry!!!
Not blaming anyone… but I have my suspicions about a certain four legged culprit!
It could have been a bird, but considering my dogs eat potting mix from seedling trays I’m raising, and that they generally chase any bird that lands on the lawn, I am guessing it was more likely a furry four legged family member.
Well, I was not a happy camper!
My sweet tahini and honey icing was going to have to do, as I was strawberry-less.
The fate of the rest of the fruit depends on me finding a way to monitor the unwanted consumption of these precious little berries.
Unhappily signing off,
Mel
Lessons:
- Dogs enjoy eating potting mix that has poo in it
- Birds and/or dogs are pests when it comes to strawberries!
